Flipper Fins - She swims ashore

I'm really focusing on painting light. I so admire those that can do it well and I decided that I want that for myself too! I've also had a mental clog about most of the pictures being so dark, but the story takes place at night on a beach! Later in the book, day comes and brings lighter, brighter light. That should be perfect.

If I find it's not perfect, I'll adjust the finals as I am making the jpegs for the digital book format.

Flipper Fins - #15 Flipper Fin Fun

I'm so happy that everything is moving along so quickly! I originally set a schedule of having a week to finish each illustration. However, I see that I don't need a full week. I continue to be amazed at how the new painting media is working and I just love it! I think I have finally found what will work for me as an illustrator.

Last night, I sat down with an idea for the next little book. I charted it out as to what would happen on each page. Looking at making the next book a double page spread. I felt a little cramped up trying to make this format work. I struggled with composition quite a bit and just felt like I was fighting the format overall.

I think this a fantastic day in age to be experimenting with digital painting and digital books! High fun, low cost and challenging enough to hold my interest!!

2 illustrations down, 14 to go!!

Flipper Fins - Illo #16

I have started painting on a new children's book (0-3) that I wrote over the Thanksgiving break. Flipper Fins is a story about a mother sea turtle who comes ashore to lay her eggs in the sand and then she returns to the water. After a few months, the eggs crack open and the baby sea turtles make a dash for the waters edge.

This book will be sold on Amazon for Kindle and Barnes & Noble for Nook. I hope to release it Summer 2012.  Stay tuned for more illustrations from the book Flipper Fins.

Psst! It's all about the baby!

Over the hills and through the dunes
To Jesus' crib we go!
